Elevator Pitch:

“Squareknot lets you make beautiful, branching step-by-step guides.”

Why It’s A Killer Startup:

First of all, awesome name. For this daughter of an Eagle Scout, nothing conjures up do-it-yourself know-how quite like the name of a classic knot. Thumbs up for that one, boys and girls.

But, more substantially, Squareknot is awesome, because I’m the kind of person who likes to be constantly learning, and, while YouTube tutorials are all the rage, they don’t really work so well for me. I like to be able to do things at my own pace and to backtrack easily. Video just isn’t a great medium for that.

Unlike YouTube, Squareknot offers step-by-step visual and written instructions on everything from how to make a classic cocktail to how to program your Raspberry Pi. Everything is beautifully illustrated with clear photos, making the site nice to look at as well as informative.

For people who like to teach, creating projects is super easy. The site walks you through adding each step to your process, complete with an image and written directions. Are you really into creating DIY bath products? Super-obsessed with sewing? Show off your knowledge and help other people get down with it too!

In addition to full projects, you can also create “branches.” Basically, if you’re inspired by someone’s project and want to create something of your own, you can add a branch that takes it in another direction. So, for example, if someone is making an apple and carrot juice and you want to make an apple/carrot/ginger juice, you can add a branch that will show people how to do just that!

So what are you waiting for? What’s the skill you’ve been really meaning to learn but just haven’t gotten around to? Head over to Squareknot and see if they have it yet.

And if they don’t? Well, writing instructions is definitely a great way to teach yourself.

Tweetable:

LOOOOOOVING these beautiful, step-by-step instructions on how to do, well, EVERYTHING @Squareknot
