How to Find out Locations you visited using Google Maps

Google Maps is definitely one of the best mapping service available and it is available across all platforms including desktop and smartphones. Google Maps has this option of tracking the locations you visited using your smartphone. So in case Google Maps is installed and activated on your phone, it can keep track of all the places you visited along with a timestamp. The Google Maps location tracking service allows users to see the exact locations you visited on any particular date.

So how to use this feature. Previously, this feature was available in location history, but it keeps changing with new updates to the app. As of now, the location history is available in “Your timeline” option.

Google Maps location tracking

To access the location history, open Google Maps and select the hamburger menu on the side by tapping the three lines available on the top left the corner. Here you will see the option “Your timeline”, select this option.

Screenshot_20161130-091806

Under this option, you can see the location history for today. On the top, you can also see the option to select the date for checking the history for any particular day. Below you will see your travel history for that particular day and also the locations you have been to on that day. If you have taken any photos at any location and available in Google Photos, then it is also displayed in the location history.

Screenshot_20161130-091834

While this is a useful feature to know places you have visited, not all users might be needing this feature as it is also a privacy concern that Google is tracking your location. So in case you want to disable this feature, click on the three dots on the top right corner of the location history. From here you can select settings.

Screenshot_20161130-091900

Under the settings, you can see the option to turn off location history and also delete all the existing location history. There is also an option to delete the location history for a date range you specify.

While some users like this feature as it keeps tracks of all the places visited, some users don’t like the privacy concerns of Google tracking you.

Too Busy To Exercise? Feel Down At Work? Desk Yogi Is The Wellness Solution For You

I woke up a few months ago feeling like my arm was broken. I figured I must have slept on it awkwardly and that the pain would go away. My arm did feel better as the day went on, but I woke up the next day and the day after that with the same agony.

Eventually I discovered that I needed to change the height of my desk chair, which I did, of course, and my arm improved. But the aches and pains continue to creep up more frequently with each additional hour I log in front of a glowing screen.

Don’t get me wrong. The hazards of a desk job hardly compare to mining coal for a living. There are hazards nonetheless – physical and mental – and they should be taken seriously.

Desk Yogi is my favorite wellness solution that I’ve seen in a long time. The company’s mission is “to bring wellness to the workplace, helping you improve health and happiness right at your desk.” And to achieve this wellness, they provide 3 to 10-minute video lessons that you can follow at your work station.

A growing library of 400+ videos and audio lessons taught by experts covers topics ranging from yoga, fitness and stretching, to mindfulness, nutrition, ergonomics, stress reduction, and more. Desk Yogi allows subscribers to create personalized playlists that fit their routine and needs. Desk Yogi also delivers custom reminders, weekly broadcasts and monthly challenges to encourage building – and holding to – healthy habits.

I used to attend yoga classes. I used walk at least an hour a day, I used to stretch and meditate and workout… There are a lot of reasons why I’ve strayed from doing all of the activities that kept me stronger and more energized than my current self, the biggest being that I simply don’t have enough time to break away long enough. My schedule doesn’t allow for it. And I’m clearly far from alone in this predicament.

Desk Yogi is wise to orient its program around work life. Work is where we spend a great deal of our time, after all. Chances are good you’re online already or have easy access, so the only equipment you need is within easy reach. We forget how beneficial small breaks, small steps can be, which are the exact kinds of boosts that Desk Yogi champions.

The startup offers individual and corporate memberships, both of which have free trial periods. The website also provides free access to limited content for those interested in sampling lessons.

The Digital Wallet Revolution

Believe it or not, digital wallets have been around for years. The first signs of the digital wallet revolution date back to the late 1990’s with PayPal being used as a software solution for eBay users that made it convenient to store their cards for repeat online purchases.

Unfortunately, digital wallet technology was shaky, and customers and retailers were slow to adopt over concerns like security or not even being aware of the existence of digital wallets. All of that thinking changed in October 2014 when Apple Pay debuted. Now we have digital wallets from a wide-range of organizations like Samsung, Starbucks, and Due.

While digital wallets have completely taken over payments, there’s no denying that they’ve gone mainstream. In fact, eMarketer found that in 2015 there were around 23.2 million people in the U.S. using proximity mobile payments. The number was expected to increase to 61.8% to 37.5 million. By 2017, eMarketer 37.0 percent of the younger age group will have adopted the technology.

“Younger consumers generally have fewer apprehensions when it comes to experimenting with and eventually adopting new technologies,” said eMarketer analyst Bryan Yeager. “That’s certainly true for mobile payments, where security concerns are more pronounced among older consumers. Ultimately, mobile wallets will need to have a strong track record of security to attract more users across all demographics long-term.”

A study conducted by Square, however, found that 44 percent of Millennials have adopted mobile payments and those with Apple Pay and Android Pay use the technology at least once a week.

Millennials are using digital wallets.

Globally, it’s a different story,

Turkey, Denmark, Norway, and Israel are the biggest users of mobile wallets. In the UK,  one in 10 card transactions are now contactless. And, it’s planned for every single POS terminal in the U.K. and Ireland to be contactless by 2020.

In Australia, 53 percent of people use make contactless payments at least once a week at grocery, fast food, and drug stores. In Canada, about 10 percent of all domestic transactions are contactless and it’s believed to growing at the rate of 1 percent per month. Finally, the mobile wallet market in India is expected to become a $6.6 billion industry by 2020.

If you haven’t realized it yet, there’s a digital wallet revolution underway. And, it’s because Millennials are completely embracing the technology.

Why Millennials are important

Millennials, those born roughly between 1982 and 2005, are currently the largest demographic in the U.S. At around 80 million strong, Millennials expected to generate 46 percent of all U.S. income by 2025. In other words, they’re going to be “the financial force of tomorrow.”

Additionally, a whooping 86 percent of Millennials own a smartphone. Because of this, they would prefer to do their banking online. In fact, 71 percent shockingly admitted that they would rather visit the dentist then listen to what traditional banks have to say, while 33 percent believe that within five years they won’t even need a bank. Furthermore, 47 percent have transferred funds to someone else electronically.

With a digital wallet app, Millennials can make payments, view statements and transactions, set up recurring payments, and pay back friends instead of writing a check, exchanging with cash, or receiving a paper statements in the mail.

Why digital wallets are connecting with Millennials

Millennials are the driving force behind digital wallet adoption. We quickly discussed why younger generations are embracing digital wallets, but here’s a more in-depth look at how digital wallets have won have this important demographic:

  • Convenient and Flexible. Around half of Millennials use mobile payments to speed-up financial transactions, 44 percent would prefer to pay using their mobile phone than with cash, and 50 percent want to connect their mobile payment information to a “wearable” device, such as a smart watch.
  • Millennials monitor spending regularly. Mobile wallets give users the chance to check their balances regularly. In fact, 52 percent of Millennials want mobile payments to help them track their spending
  • Mobile wallets offer loyalty programs, special offers, and coupons. Digital Wallets do more than transfer funds and track spending. They make transfers and transactions seamless and safe and can also be used to find the best deals and receive rewards. In a Urban Airship study, 67 percent of respondents said they wanted their mobile wallets to offer loyalty cards, and 62 percent said they wanted coupons.
  • Millennials enjoy engagement features. Digital wallets allow brands the opportunity to reach out and remind users of an upcoming expiration date, event, or notify them of the current loyalty bonus or transaction. Also, digital wallets can also contain important information like boarding passes, event tickets, reminders, and ID cards, which means you can leave the house with just your smartphone.
  • Lend or payback friends. Thanks to the peer-to-peer capabilities of digital wallets, Millennials can either lend, payback, or split bills with their friends, family, or co-workers. These transactions are completed in just one-step and are free. This is a reason why Venmo has become such as phenomenon.

All money will soon be digital

Millennials aren’t the only reason why digital wallets will replace traditional payments methods, like cash and checks. As noted in a previous Due post, all money will eventually be digital because:

  • It’s cheaper for governments to go digital because it’s expensive to produce coins and bills.
  • Crime can be reduced and there will be less germs since we’re not exchanging physical currency.
  • It will be easier to catch tax evaders.
  • Payments will occur almost immediately, no matter where you live in the world.
  • There may eventually be a global currency, such as a cryptocurrency like bitcoin, so that exchanging currency and price conversions will become a thing of the past.

The digital wallet revolution is here. And it’s time to jump-on-board by educating yourself and start learning to love the awesome perks that digital wallets have to offer.

How to Save Bookmarks for Offline Reading in Chrome for Android

Google Chrome is today the most popular web browser available across multiple platforms including desktop, mobile phones, tablets and also across different OS (Android, Windows, Mac, and iOS). One of the most important features of Google Chrome is that you can sync your browsing data across all platforms using the Google ID. If you sign in with your Gmail ID on Chrome, you can access all your data from any Chrome browser.

Now, on Android phones, you can save bookmarks similar to how you do on the desktop. But on Android, you can also make all the bookmarks available offline. In this tutorial, we will show you how to make the bookmarks available offline on Google Chrome for Android.

Chrome for Android offline bookmarks

Since Chrome for Android comes pre-installed on all Android phones, you don’t have to download it separately. Open the Chrome browser and in the navigational bar type chrome://flags and press enter.

Screenshot_20161129-100904

This will open the Chrome flags settings page, now scroll down and you will see an option called “Enable offline Bookmarks”. You can also find it using the find option in the browser. Select the dropdown for this settings and select Enabled option. This will prompt you to re-launch Chrome browser. Click on the re-launch button and this will close the browser and open it again with the new setting.

Screenshot_20161129-100908

Now, when you save any bookmarks in Chrome for Android, it will be saved as the entire web page and will be available for offline reading as well. This is quite handy when you flying and you do not have access to the Internet and want to read your bookmarks.

Meizu M3S Review

Meizu announced their latest budget device, the M3S in India a few days back. The device is the successor of Meizu M2 which was released in India last year. The device comes with a 5 inch HD display and is powered by MediaTek MT6750 Octa-core processor coupled with either a 2GB or a 3GB of RAM.

The device has Flyme OS on top of Android 5.1 Lollipop and comes at a price of Rs 7999 for the base variant. So how does the device perform for the price segment? Let’s find out in this detailed review.

Meizu M3S review

Design and Build:

Meizu has always had premium design and build quality on their smartphones be it budget or flagship. Meizu M3S in no different in terms of design and build. It is an all-metal unibody design which comes with 360° sand blasting. Although there are some resemblances with Redmi 3S, the front panel makes the Meizu M3S different. There is also 2.5D curved laminated glass on the front panel which adds to the design elements.

It comes in gold and gray variants, with the gold variant having a white front panel. The front panel houses the mTouch button which acts as a home, back and also fingerprint scanner which we have seen on M3 Note. There is also a 5MP front camera and the usual set of sensors. On the right side, there are power and volume keys, while the SIM tray is on the left side. The top houses the 3.5 jack while the speaker unit and the micro USB charging slot is at the bottom. The rear panel has curved edges all round with antenna bands running on the top and bottom. The rear panel houses the 13MP camera, dual LED flash and the Meizu logo. Overall, in terms of design and build, the Meizu M3S won’t disappoint you.

Display:

The Meizu M3S comes with a 5 inch HD (720p) display with 294PPI. There is also 2.5D glass design brings you visual joy and a great feeling in the hand. The display has good colors and viewing angles. The outdoor visibility is also decent and so is the touch response of the display.

Overall, the display on the Meizu M3s won’t disappoint you.

DSC_0226

Software:

Meizu M3s runs on Flyme OS on top of Android 5.1 Lollipop. One of the disappointments with the M3S is that it comes with out-dated version of Android. When we reviewed Flyme OS last year, we mentioned that the UI is slightly confusing as it has the look and feel of iOS to an extent. But with the latest version of Flyme OS, things have changed drastically with respect to the UI. Now it looks more or less like the Android UI with a customized look. The notification center is also a custom one.

S61128-114640S61128-114650S61128-114644

The settings panel has all the options available for an Android phone, but there aren’t any added features or gestures supported on the phone. There is also support for themes and you can do a bit of customization on your phone. The phone also comes with Toolbox app which provides all the needed apps like flashlight, mirror, compass, level, ruler and magnifier.

S61128-114659S61128-114900S61128-114717

There is also a security app which provides options like a cleaner, accelerator, call blocking, power manager and also the anti virus.

S61128-114749

Performance:

The Meizu M3s comes in two variants, the 2GB RAM variant with 16GB storage and 3GB one with 32GB storage. There is also micro SD card expansion slot, but it is a hybrid one. It is powered by MediaTek MT6750 Octa-core processor with Cortex A53 and clocked at 1.5Ghz with Mali T860 GPU. We tested the 2GB variant and the performance was quite good with no major lags or issues. The gaming performance of the device was also quite good when we tested the device with heavy graphic rich games. The heating on the device was well under control and no major issues.

S61128-114727S61128-114740

The call quality on the phone was quite good and so were the speaker unit located at the bottom. The fingerprint sensor is located on the physical home button and it works very well. You can add multiple fingerprints to unlock the device. The home button is also called mTouch button which acts as a home, back button and fingerprint scanner. There are no capacitive buttons for back and multi-tasking. If you want to switch between apps, you need to swipe up from either side of the home button.

S61128-114816

Camera:

Meizu M3S comes with a 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, 5 element lens, PDAF and dual tone dual LED flash. There is also a 5MP front camera for selfies. The camera interface is quite good with almost all options you would want on the camera app. It comes with manual mode, panorama, beauty mode, slow motion, GIF and many more.

Coming to the camera samples taken with the device, the photos have come with decent clarity and color quality. Considering the pricing of the device, we would say that the daylight photos are decent. The sharpness levels are strictly average though. The low light images have noise and not the best experience, but again considering that this is a budget device, it is quite decent. The video recording is also decent with 1080p resolution available. The front camera was just average and good for social shares. Here are some of the samples taken with the camera.

P61108-120552.jpg P61108-120544.jpg P61103-010757.jpg P61103-010534.jpg P60203-224540.jpg P60203-223721.jpg P61108-142832.jpg P61108-120911.jpg

Battery Life:

The Meizu M3S comes with a 3020mAh battery. The battery performance of the device is good and you can easily get at least 1 day of battery life with moderate usage. We tested with the usage of social networking apps, calls, gaming, taking photos and also browsing.

Overall, the battery performance is quite decent on the phone. There are some additional modes which help you get better out of your battery.

S61128-114754

Verdict:

Meizu M3S is priced Rs 7,999 for the 2GB RAM/16GB variant while the 3GB RAM is priced Rs 9499. While Meizu M3S offers good design and build, decent performance and battery life, the major issue with the device is the out-dated OS and Meizu hasn’t been the best OEM in terms of updates. Xiaomi’s Redmi 3S and 3S prime offer better specs and performance at a slightly lesser price point.

ManyContacts Reveals Social Profiles Tied To An Email Address

Who is this person? Where did I put that contact information? How do I reach so and so…

Spend any amount of time online and you’ll undoubtedly need to look up a person’s social profiles – so you can follow her on Twitter, review his credentials on LinkedIn, like a company’s Facebook page after meeting the crew at a startup mixer. Wouldn’t it be great to have all those social accounts immediately at your disposal, no searching required?

ManyContacts is the perfect, time-saving tool for the job. Take any email address, and this free tool reveals the social profiles, picture and contact details.

manycontacts-extension-websites

For supreme convenience, ManyContacts lives as a Chrome extension and works with Gmail. Take a glimpse at the emails in your inbox, and next to each email address you’ll find all the social links you need without having to hunt for them.

Visit a webpage and click on the ManyContact extension, and it will extract all the emails related to the page with the social profiles for each email as well.

I’m not a mathematician, so I can’t tell you exactly how much time this can save the average internet user. But I do know how those extra clicks and searches add up. ManyContacts will save a lot of time, enough that it made me “Ooh” audibly when I came across the screenshot below.

manycontacts-extension-gmail-inbox

Nearly every day I’m introduced to a tool that wants to kill or reconfigure email, but we all know and use email. Gmail, in particular, simply gets the job done for us. Likewise, too many contact tools belabor syncing data and reorganizing information. ManyContacts wisely avoids all these paths that typically result in products that are more nuisance than assistance.

Like all the great tools, ManyContacts is simple, unobtrusive, and useful. Learn more about the company here, or add ManyContacts to your Chrome browser at http://ift.tt/2gyCNp5.
