Sandisk Connect Wireless Stick Review

Sandisk is a well known company for it’s storage solutions including USB pen drives. SanDisk Connect is a unique device that deals effectively with the common storage problem that people have to face these days due to increase in the usage of content on their smartphones and tablets. The flash drive is a good choice for iOS users and it can also be used with any Android phone, PC or laptop.

It serves as a wireless hotspot and enables users to consume the files present in it through their devices, stream HD movies or music to up to three devices at once and on a full charge. Here is the detailed review of the wireless stick

Here is the video review:

Design and Build:

The Sandisk Connect looks like a normal USB pen drive, but has slightly bigger dimensions. The top panel has a textured finishing which feels  modern. There’s a single LED at the center of the front panel that lets you know whether the drive is on, transferring wireless data, charging, low on battery, or updating firmware and this is achieved using the way the notification light glows and the color of the light.

On the side, there is a simple switch which when pressed turns on the wireless on the device. The device comes with a clear cap which when removed can be connected to PC as normal USB pen drive. This mechanism also charges the battery on the device. The main feature of this pen drive is the 802.11n Wi-Fi portable connection which allows three smartphones or tablets to connect at the same time.

Overall, the design and build quality of the wireless stick looks good and is pretty compact for the features it offers.

Performance:

Connecting the Wireless stick to your smartphone is easy task, all you need to do is to turn on the power button on the stick and search for Sandisk Connect wireless network on your smartphone’s Wi-Fi. Once you connect this Wi-Fi to your phone, you are connected to the disk. But the problem here is you cannot connect to your data connection as Wi-Fi is already in use.

You need to download the Sandisk connect app from Play store or app store (links below) and install on your phone. It is compatible with Android and iOS. Open the app and you will see the disk is connected to the smartphone.

By default the pen drive does not have any password for Wi-Fi, but you can easily set it up from the settings for security of your files. You can also connect the pen drive to your home Wi-Fi network, the advantage of using this is that, you can connect the smartphone to the same network and still access the files without having to connect to the USB’s Wi-Fi.

You can connect three devices to the pen drive and access files simultaneously. You can also stream movies and music to these three connected devices. The pen drive comes with non-replaceable rechargeable lithium polymer battery which has a battery life of 3-4 hours in continuous usage and the charging can be done connecting it to USB slot on your PC. You can create folders and copy paste content into the device from your smartphone.

The transferring of files via USB is also pretty fast and the overall performance is good.

Verdict:

The USB drive comes in 4 variants, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB that are priced at Rs2390, Rs3190, Rs4790 and Rs7990 respectively. Considering the pricing, it is slightly on the higher side as you can pick up wireless USB hub for lesser pricing. But if you are looking for compact wireless storage options, the Sandisk Connect is a good option.
