Lumia 550 Unboxing and First Impressions

Lumia 550 is a new Windows 10 Mobile device which was announced by Microsoft along with the announcement of the flagship phones Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL. Lumia 550 is the new budget smartphone which comes with 4.7 inch HD display and is powered by Snapdragon 210 Quad-core processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage. The phone also features micro SD expansion slot.

The device was announced in India last week and now we have the device with us for a quick unboxing and also the first impressions of the device.

Here is the unboxing video of the device.

Design-wise, the Lumia 550 does not offer anything new. It looks more or less like the Lumia 630 released last year. The phone has sharp edges all round and has a slightly tapered design for the sides. The rear panel houses the 5MP camera, LED flash and Windows logo along with speaker at the bottom. The power and volume keys are on the right side. The top houses the 3.5mm audio jack and the bottom section has micro USB charging slot.

The rear panel is removable and so is the 2100 battery. The device has single SIM card and micro SD inside. The front panel has 4.7 inch HD display and 2MP front camera. The build quality of the device is the same as you would find on almost all budget Lumia devices. The phone has a matte finish on the rear panel.

The phone comes with 4.7 inch HD display and there is no protection offered on the display. The display quality looks decent and the touch response was good. The colors are decent on the device and considering this is just a basic display, the quality looks good. The phone has 3 on screen buttons just like most of the Windows phones. The display is a fingerprint magnet and attracts a lot of dirt (even in our short usage).

The device has 8GB internal storage and out of which around 4.25GB is available in the first boot. You can also expand the storage via micro SD card and install apps directly onto the SD card.

The phone comes with 5MP rear camera with LED flash and 2MP front camera for selfies. While the 5MP camera is pretty decent in terms of quality, the competition now offers 13MP in this segment. The phone runs on Snapdragon 210 Quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM. The performance in the first few hours of usage was pretty poor and Windows 10 Mobile has lots of bugs and we experience a couple of crashes as well.

The battery capacity of the device is 2100 which looks like decent capacity for a budget phone.
