Google’s Phone app now has Spam Call Protection

We all get a lot of spam calls from marketing agencies and other services. While some of the OEMs do include spam protection for calls, it is not available on Android by default. Google is now releasing a new Phone app for Android phones (Nexus and Android One) which has the ability to block unwanted calls.

Once you have upgraded your Phone app to latest version, you can have spam call protection on your device.

Spam call protection

As you can see from the image, when a call arrives it number if it matches up with spam caller list, then the dialer app shows a red background (instead of regular blue one) for the call with a message “Suspected Spam caller”.  The phone app will warn you about potential spam callers and give you the ability to block and report these numbers.

If you already have Caller ID turned on, spam protection will be available on your phone once your app updates to the latest version. To enable spam protection, open the Phone app and tap More options and then Tap Caller ID & spam protection.

This new feature is available only on Nexus and Android One phones. So in case you use any of these phones, you can update the Phone app and get this feature.
